Radio Frequency (RF) Metrology
Measurement Standards
Attenuation
The national measurement standard for RF attenuation is a "waveguide below cutoff" piston attenuator operating at 30 MHz.
Impedance
The national measurement standards for RF impedance are air-dielectric 50 Ω coaxial transmission lines.
Power
The national measurement standard for RF power consists of two absolute RF power standards; one for 50 Ω systems and one for 75 Ω systems. They measure the RF power in terms of substituted DC power, which produces the same temperature rise in the head of the standard.
